March 09 Event UpdateHello everyone,
I hope that you are all well and that you have been passing on the news of our plans to all your old sailing pals and getting them to contact us! This note is just to keep you posted on the progress to date of the Alumni event we are hoping to run in June and other alumni news.
We shall be putting together an entry form for the event in the next week or so, and mailing these out to you once we have confirmed costs and logistics etc.
We have managed to find the minutes book for all AGM's and committee meetings dating back to as far as 1975! It’s been quite a good read! In the next couple of weeks we shall put up an entry with as much of the clubs history as we can put together. Some odd things have gone on in the clubs past! If you have any info on the clubs history, please do get in contact with us.
After our committee meeting tonight I am glad to announce that, the new club house at West Riding is up! This is very exciting and also means that we have a club house to run the alumni event from (unlike the Halloween howler that was run in tents!
WRSC have managed to raise £3000 at the Dinghy Show last weekend, and are pushing to meet the £80,000 barrier to pay for the new club. Check out the website to see their progress and photos of the fire. www.wrsc.org
We have also been busy putting together a proposal for trading in our poor old decrepit looking Larks, for a nice new shiny fleet of Firefly’s. These are what nearly all the universities are now racing. Having been let down by our Union so many times over the last 6 years we are in desperate need of new boats for the club to survive. Our task for the next year is to earn as much money as possible through sponsorship and fund raising events and try and get the union to match what we make. We are keeping our fingers crossed!
That’s it for now; keep an eye on this website and your email inbox for updates over the coming weeks.
From all of us at Leeds University Sailing Club
